Continuing the theme of food waste reduction from my last post, Food Waste Prevention Week (FWPW) is an annual event focused on raising awareness of food waste and its negative impacts on our society and environment, while also sharing resources to help individuals, families, and organizations reduce their food waste. In 2026, FWPW will be celebrated September 28 to October 4, 2026.

I wrote a post highlighting this event and offering some food waste reduction tips that you can use year round on the Champaign County Environmental Stewards (CCES) website. I’m a member of the board of directors for CCES, a local non-profit that works to improve local and regional options for recycling, composting food scraps, and the safe and convenient disposal of household hazardous waste. We also foster local and regional solutions for waste reduction, including reducing the use of single-use plastics, and provide useful information and resources to assist residents and businesses in these efforts.
